Gold Coasters will soon have more ways to get to and from study and work with a free commuter trial to take place on the city’s ferry network, Hopo.
The commuter trial, which will occur between 4 November 2021 and 4 December 2021, will include an extended timetable and free travel from Monday to Friday across the entire ferry network between 7 am to 9 am and 5 pm to 7 pm.
The trial hopes to entice commuters to try out the service during peak travel times and road/bridge congestion. The ferry service integrates with the broader public transport system, including connections to the light rail at Surfers Paradise and Southport, the bus network at all stops, and the City of Gold Coast Active Travel network.
The month-long trial will help determine the level of community interest in water transport services for people travelling to and from work across the network: Surfers Paradise, Home of the Arts (HOTA), Marina Mirage, Broadwater Parklands and Sea World.
The service will become a permanent part of the Hopo schedule if there is sufficient interest, with ongoing affordable fares from $3.00 per trip.
Bookings are not required, simply meet the ferry at one of the five stops and hop on. Entrance is on a first-come-first-served basis.
