The team at Hopo Ferry are passionate about creating a fun, safe and accessible water transport service for City of Gold Coast residents and visitors.
Hopo would like to create opportunities for Gold Coast residents to embark on a rewarding career in the Maritime and Tourism industries.
The Hopo Academy has been created to:
- help address skill shortages in the industry
- develop skills for people from all backgrounds
- support the Hopo team to future-proof the service
- provide volunteer and internships for those wishing to gain experience in a dream job and location
- assist in research projects on the Waterways
OUR NEW TWIN FERRIES
The best training platform
The Hopo Ferry vessels were custom designed and built on the Gold Coast. The two 12 metre catamarans are a ‘master only’ vessel, and require skippers to have at least a Certificate II Maritime Operations (Coxwain Grade 1, near coastal).

Fun, safe & supportive team members
The Hopo team includes expert Skippers, Crew, Maintenance Engineers, Reservations, Sales & Marketing. All of the Hopo team members ensure the customer is at the centre of everything we do. We support each other to continuously improve the service whilst mastering our craft.

The leadership team provide practical hands on training and mentor-ship to develop our staff on a regular basis. Our leaders are ocean lovers, that are passionate about developing the next generation of skippers and crew to be the custodians of our beautiful Waterways.
OUR GRADUATES
A career that takes you places
There has been a total of 8 trainees that have graduated from the Hopo Academy in 2020. These trainees are from a variety of backgrounds, genders and age groups. Proudly, there have been 2 female skippers that have graduated the academy, to forge successful careers in a male dominated industry.
